Mohammad Aamer was born on April 14, 1992 in Gujjar Khan, Punjab, Pakistan. At age seven, he started playing cricket, and by 11, he was already seen on tournaments. At 15, he  became a part of the Pakistan U-19 cricket team which toured in England. Eventually, he became one of the leading bowlers of the team.

His impressive performance in his domestic debut in 2007 led to his international breakthrough during the 2009 Twenty20 World Cup. He continued to impress the audience as the competition progresses. He also joined the 2010 World Cup where he was able to take three wickets in a five wicket-maiden. Despite his exceptional performance during the competition, he was ignored by the Pakistan Cricket Board when they chose Mohammad Yousuf and Abdul Razzaq as recipients of cricket contracts.
