Joseph William "Joe" Frazier was born in Beaumont, South Carolina on 12th January 1944. He has also been popularly known as ‘Smokin Joe’. Joe has been one of the more famous professional boxers of all times. He was a World Heavy Weight Champion in boxing and is an Olympic gold medalist as well. Joe has over the years also acted in films and television shows. He owns a boxing gym in Philadelphia too and earns money from there. But of course, the main source of his wealth comes from boxing.

Joe Frazier was an Olympic gold medalist. He has won 32 fights out of 37. He was at his top during the 1960’s when Joe was able to beat almost all the top challengers. His fight with Muhammad Ali in 1971 at New York City’s Madison Square Garden is still remembered – it is considered among the most famous boxing matches. It was called the “Fight of the Century”. Joe eventually lost his Champion title when he was defeated by George Foreman. Frazier has won many awards, like the Golden Gloves Heavy Weight Championships award in 1962, 1963 and 1964.

He is inducted in the “World Boxing Hall of Fame” and “International Boxing Hall of Fame”. In 2011 cancer was identified in his liver. His cancer spread throughout the body and he eventually died because of this in November 2011. Muhammad Ali, Larry Homes, Dennis Rodman, Don King and many others attended his funeral. He was buried at the Ivy Hill Cemetery. Joe has a son Marvis who is also a boxer. Frazier trained Marvis himself but he was not able to recreate his father’s success.
