Born in Italy, raised in Canada and grew up in the United States, Gatti has participated in four world class boxing matches (2003, 2002, 1998 and 1997) which were considered by the Ring Magazine as the Fight of the Year. In July 2007, Gatti announced his retirement from boxing. After his retirement, he moved to Montreal to pursue a career on real estate. In December 2012, he was inducted into International Boxing Hall of Fame, which made him the 10th Canadian to have earned such honor in boxing.

Among his major world titles include IBF Super Featherweight Champion (130 lbs) and WBC Light Welterweight Champion (140 lbs). He was also named as IBA Welterweight Champion (147 lbs) and USBA Super Featherweight Champion (130 lbs) in the past.

While spending a vacation with his wife and his 10-month old child in Brazil, Arturo Gatti was found dead.   His wife was accused with first degree after stains of blood were found on her purse. Twenty-nine days after his death, the Brazilian police officially announced that the boxer’s cause of death was suicide. A day later, the Canadian police expressed their intention of seeking more information pertaining to Gatti’s death, and that a second autopsy will be conducted. Two years after his death, private investigators finally concluded that it was homicide.
