John William Danks was born on April 15, 1985 in Austin, Texas, USA. After graduating from Round Rock High School in 2003, he was selected as a first round (ninth overall) pick by the Texas Rangers in the 2003 MLB Draft. He is currently married to Ashley Monroe, a singer-songwriter.

In December 2011, he was signed by the Chicago White Sox to a five-year, $65 million contract. In 2012, he earned $8 million, and from 2013 through 2016, he will receive an annual income amounting to $14.25 million.
