David Wells is a former American professional baseball player with an estimated net worth of $20 million. Born David Lee Wells on May 20, 1963, in Torrance, California, he grew up in San Diego where he attended Point Loma High School.
Wells began his professional career in baseball when he was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the second round of the draft. He went on to play for six seasons and became part of the 1992 World Series winning team. He then played for the Detroit Tigers as a starting pitcher in 1993 and became a top-flight pitcher in 1995.
David Wells was traded to the Cincinnati Reds for C. J. Nitkowski, Mark Lewis, and minor leaguer Dave Tuttle in the same year. After a year, he was traded to the Baltimore Orioles for Curtis Goodwin and minor leaguer Trovin Valdez. He signed as a free agent with the New York Yankees in 1997 where he played for two seasons. He pitched the 15th perfect game in MLB while playing for the team and was named the ALCS MVP in 1998.
Wells has also played for the Chicago White Sox then went back to the Yankees. He later played for the San Diego Padres, the Boston Red Sox and back to the Padres. He then played for the Los Angeles Dodgers before he retired unofficially in 2008.
Currently, David Wells serves as a broadcaster on MLB on TBS as well as the host of The Cheap Seats on FOXSports.com.
