Chris Davis played as shortstop and pitching for the Longview High School varsity baseball team. He was first drafted to the New York Yankees for the 2004 MLB Draft, but he opted to attend Navarro Junior College in Texas.

After his stint with Navarro, he was again selected for MLB Draft in 2005 by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, but he opted not to sign with the team. The following season, Davis was drafted for the third time, this time for the Texas Rangers.

He began his minor league career with the Northwest League’s Spokane Indians in 2006. During his two-season stint with the minors, Davis played for other teams such as Bakersfield Blaze, Frisco RoughRiders, and Oklahoma RedHawks.

In 2008, he started to play for the Rangers. He finished the 2011 season with the team with a record of 24 home runs in 48 games. After three seasons with the team, he was traded to Baltimore Orioles. Davis won the Slugger Award and played during the All-Star Game in 2013
