Most ’90s kids will remember the Mighty Ducks movies created by Disney. Featuring a ragtag group of kids playing hockey, coached by a lawyer played by Emilio Estevez, the movie series is pretty much required material for any child taking up the sport. So it may come as a bit of a surprise when you discover the cast of then-children are now grown up and face real life adult problems like getting arrested for possession of meth.
To be fair, that’s a very specific example, but according to TMZ, that’s exactly what happened to Shaun Weiss, better known as Goldberg from the Mighty Ducks. The actor was spotted in a neighborhood in Burbank, not far away from the Warner Bros. studio. Police were called, as they believed the man to be intoxicated. Police found Weiss and charged him with possession, and he is currently being held with bail set at $10,000, which is down from the $20,000 initially according to People.com.
Obviously, this news comes as a shock. Weiss garnered fame as a child star, and most probably still remember him as Goldberg. But that was in 1992, twenty-five years ago, and a lot has changed in in that time. Since then, Weiss was seen on Boy Meets World, Saved by the Bell, King of Queens, Freaks and Geeks, and Sabrina The Teenage Witch along with the two Mighty Ducks sequels. Since that time, Weiss has worked in mostly short films or TV movies, recently Netflix & Chill which released last year. But this isn’t the first time the actor found himself on the wrong side of the law. Last week, TMZ reported Weiss served 12 days of a 150-day sentence for petty theft. He got lucky and was let out early because of overcrowding.
It’s sad to see a beloved actor fall from grace in such a hard way. Apparently, Weiss was really hoping his jail sentence could help his situation and was even planning on doing some writing while in the clink. Maybe this punishment will be exactly what he needs, but only time will tell.
