In the wake of yet another mass shooting, it’s pretty easy to see the reason why gun control is on everybody’s mind. The fact that shootings like these are happening more and more frequently puts yet more impetus on the push for sensible gun legislation that would hopefully prevent these tragedies from happening in the first place.

Convincing the American public that gun control is a good idea is a pretty tall order though. That’s why tons of celebs lend their famous faces to the fight for sensible controls on firearms. The hope here is that if enough famous people come out in favor of gun control it may suddenly become a thing that’s on the political radar.

Whether or not they’re successful is another matter entirely, but if you were wondering which celebs are vocal opponents of guns we’ve got a short list for you.

John Mayer

If there was any debate as to what side of the fence John Mayer was on they were silenced in the wake of the mass shooting in Las Vegas a few days ago. Following the news, he took to Twitter and in 10 tweets shared his thoughts on the matter without ever using the word ‘gun’. “If you’re not at least trying to fix this,” began tweet number seven, “you’re effectively telling the country in your (in)actions that this [is] somehow acceptable.”

Lady Gaga

After pretty much every mass shooting in American history, Lady Gaga has come out swinging for strict gun control legislation. After the shooting in Orlando Florida at a gay nightclub Lady Gaga would sign her name in an open letter to Congress asking for laws preventing the sale of guns to terrorists and for background checks on any potential gun buyers.

Mark Ruffalo

He may occasionally hold a gun on TV or in movies, but Mark Ruffalo definitely hates guns. Much like Lady Gaga, Ruffalo takes to Twitter after every mass shooting asking for sensible gun control laws. Right after the 2015 shooting at an Oregon college, he patiently reminded the second amendment nuts that it was actually a gun control amendment rather than an excuse for everyone to have one—the keywords being “well regulated”.

Amy Schumer

One of 2015’s most influential people, according to Time magazine, Amy Schumer has been using her influence to push for laws restricting firearms for years. After a 2015 shooting in a Lafayette movie theatre that left two women dead, Schumer tried to lobby Congress to get tighter controls on who can buy guns. "If you've been convicted of domestic violence, or if you are severely mentally ill, that you not be able to get a gun. That seems pretty logical to me." Congress didn't see it that way, sadly.

Kim Kardashian West

After being robbed at gunpoint last year in Paris, Kim Kardashian has been a vocal opponent of guns. For National Gun Violence Awareness day, she wrote as much on her website. "We all have a voice and a right to feel safe, to be protected from people who are a threat, particularly when handed a deadly weapon,” the reality star wrote. “I want to help build a safer future for my children and I believe together we can find ways to do that, while still protecting the rights of the American people."

Jimmy Kimmel

The late-night star actually got teary-eyed and could barely finish his opening monolog following the Las Vegas shooting. The Las Vegas native then called out all the Republican senators that voted against a measure that would close loopholes allowing people to get around background checks when purchasing a gun online or at a gun show. He then broke down in tears.
