Hip-Hop is a truly unique music genre. It’s the only lane of music in which the subject matter is predominantly about getting money, buying expensive things, extreme materialism and living the fast life. Honestly, think about it – do you ever hear country music stars or classical musicians singing about how many diamonds they wear or the new Bugatti they just bought? Nope, that only happens in rap music. The following list comprises of rappers who love the “almighty green” so much, that they've actually added the “$” sign to their stage names.

Ty$

Ty$ is a new young artist who is among the pack of West Coast artists enjoying huge success in the rap industry. He has a very noticeable presence – he’s tall, with long, thick dreadlocks and has a sing-along type of rapping style that translates into catchy radio hits. Ty$ is definitely all about his money – he’s currently one of the artists underneath Wiz Khalifa’s Taylor Gang label, and he’s also reportedly starting his own musical imprint with buzzing upstart rapper YG and surging music producer DJ Mustard.

Joey BadA$$

Joey Bada$$ is a young Brooklyn rapper who has been steadily ascending on the rap scene in the last few years. He’s especially loved by Hip-Hop purists because he has a unique flow and sound reminiscent of the Golden Era of rap when names like Nas, Jay-Z, A Tribe Called Quest and Black Moon were the top names on the scene. He has dropped several mixtapes already, but his major label debut is set to drop later this year.

 A$AP Rocky

Largely considered as the best-dressed rapper in Hip-Hop right now, A$AP Rocky is really flying high above all his peers. He is regularly featured in top-tier fashion magazines like Vogue wearing high-priced designer threads from some of the most expensive European brands (Rick Owens, Versace, Martin Margiela, Dior). With the amount of money this guy spends on clothes, he must have tons of “$” bills stacked up, not only in his name, but in his bank account as well.

 A$AP Ferg

A$AP Ferg is a Harlem rapper who belongs to the same rap group as the aforementioned A$AP Rocky. Even though he doesn’t have as much of a fashion following and mass appeal as Rocky, Ferg makes up for that with his high energy rap songs and grass-root level support. Two of his biggest hits to date are “Work” and “Shabba Ranks” and whenever he performs them at a club or concert, the crowds go absolutely crazy.

Curren$y

Originally from New Orleans, Curren$y is a rapper that has been through several different phases in his rap career. He first emerged on the scene in the early 2000’s as one of the rappers signed to Lil Wayne’s YMCMB label. He eventually left there, and for a while he was affiliated with Dame Dash’s Blue Roc label. But that union didn’t last long either. He ended up going independent and totally devoting himself to his Jet Life brand/label. Curren$y is extremely focused when it comes to his money. He is constantly on tour earning very good money for his performances and he also owns a respected car shop and garage in his native New Orleans called Street Customs MGMT.

Too $hort

Representing the Bay Area of the West Coast, Too Short is one of those rappers that has been around for eons. No matter the era or current trend in Hip-Hop, he continues to remain relevant in the pantheon of rap. He first emerged on the scene with his debut album in 1987, and about 15 albums later, the 48-yr-old rapper still remains active. Too $hort loves money as well – but even more prominent than the materialism in his raps, is his penchant for glorifying the pimp lifestyle. He was actually featured on the most recent Lady Gaga album on a song titled “Jewels n’ Drugs.”

 Trinidad Jame$

Trinidad Jame$ is a great example of how the rap game can be a quick ticket to success and riches. The Atlanta-based rapper only started rapping in 2011, but he ended up putting out a single called “All Gold Everything” that totally took off. The remix to that song featured Hip-Hop heavy hitters like T.I. and Young Jeezy, and all the buzz he garnered from the song earned him a $2 million dollar recording deal from Def Jam. Pretty impressive don’t you think? Only rapping for about three years and then signing a million dollar deal  - only in America.

Vinny Cha$E

If there’s one thing that’s known about rappers from Harlem, it’s that they like to be flashy and stand out from the crowd wherever they go. Just think of names like Cam’ron, Ma$e, and Juelz Santana. Vinnie Cha$e is one of the new generation of Harlem rappers. He actually started out as a videographer for other rappers, before he realized he was pretty good on the microphone himself. The name of his rap crew is Cheers Club, and in a couple of years, it looks like they will be major players on the Hip-Hop scene.

Travi$ Scott

22-yr-old Houston rapper and producer has been making all the right moves since he emerged on the scene about four years ago. He has a really unique style and the fact that he makes his own beats in addition to rapping on his own tracks makes him stand apart from the crowd. His beats caught the attention of the one and only Kanye West, and he quickly signed Travi$ to his Very G.O.O.D. Beats production imprint. You can be sure there was a great signing bonus with that deal. With regards to his rap career, he is currently affiliated with T.I.’s Grand Hustle label, and his debut LB is slated to be unleashed later this year.

Ma$E

Harlem rapper Ma$e was certainly one of the golden boys of the 90’s bling era of rap. As the lead artist on Puff Daddy’s Bad Boy label, he had several mega-hits like “Feel So Good” and “What You Want.” He was a hit with the ladies too with his baby face and very noticeable dimples. However in 1999, he shocked the rap world by saying that he had received a calling from God, and he moved to Atlanta to become a preacher. However in the last ten years, he has made a handful of comebacks to rap music, and he is actually scheduled to put out his official comeback LP later this year. Perhaps the allure and excitement of the rap game were too much to resist - even for a preacher
