Selling real estate is a fast paced job in which you are interacting with people daily. To be a real estate agent you need to have persistence, people skills, and amazing sales skills. When you want to sell real estate you must get your real estate license. In every state it is a different process to become a real estate agent, but you are probably looking at 2 to 4 months of classes and testing to start selling real estate.
Once you have acquired your real estate license, you can go out and be an independent agent, or you can try to get a job with a larger firm. Most firms do not pay a base salary, and you are paid strictly off of commissions. You need to make sure that if you want to be a real estate agent you have the work ethic to work for long hours with out making any money at times.
You will want to start out in an area and find your niche. If you are good with selling commercial real estate you should stick with that. If you are better at moving condos, then sell condos.
The question is, how much are you going to make as a real estate agent? The average real estate agent makes about $60,000 dollars a year. This is after a few years of experience though. If you are starting out, you can expect your first year to be around $30,000 dollars in this market. Don’t worry though, after many years of experience you can be moving large numbers of properties a year, or properties of large value, and you can make pretty much any income you can set your sights on. If you were selling 3 multi million dollar mansions a month you could easily be making a million dollars a year.
